Intermediate Accountant - Willis, TX

THE CHALLENGE
The Intermediate Accountant supports monthly close and financial reporting activities for TURBINE-X’s U.S. operations, with responsibility for general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, intercompany transactions, capital assets, cost accounting, budgeting support, and financial analysis.
Working closely with Finance, Operations, and other internal teams, you’ll help ensure financial information is accurate, timely, and properly supported while strengthening accounting processes and controls across the organization.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and supporting schedules.
- Perform assigned month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, account analysis, and reconciliations.
- Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations and investigate and resolve reconciling items.
- Review general ledger activity and ensure transactions are accurately recorded in the appropriate accounting period.
- Analyze financial results and investigate significant or unusual variances.
- Prepare financial information and supporting schedules for management review.
- Provide financial information and analysis in response to ad hoc management requests.
- Assist with year-end close activities and external audit requirements.
Cost Accounting
- Support cost accounting activities for TURBINE-X’s U.S. operations.
- Assist with the preparation and analysis of project, manufacturing, and operational costs.
- Review cost-related transactions for appropriate accounting treatment and coding.
- Reconcile cost-related accounts and investigate discrepancies.
- Support analysis of actual costs against budgets, forecasts, and expected costs.
- Work with Finance and Operations to investigate significant cost variances.
- Prepare supporting schedules and cost information for financial reporting and management review.
- Support improvements to cost accounting processes, reporting, and data accuracy.
Intercompany Accounting
- Prepare and reconcile due to/from intercompany accounts.
- Ensure intercompany transactions and balances are accurately recorded within the appropriate entities.
- Investigate and resolve intercompany differences in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with other entities and accounting teams to ensure transactions are recorded consistently.
- Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for intercompany balances.
- Assist with intercompany journal entries and adjustments as required.
Capital Assets
- Review capital asset additions, transfers, disposals, and other activity for appropriate accounting treatment.
- Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset subledger to the general ledger.
- Review capital expenditures for appropriate classification in accordance with company policies.
- Review depreciation and investigate unusual or incorrect activity.
- Assist with capital asset reporting and analysis.
- Maintain supporting documentation for capital asset transactions.
- Work with internal departments to resolve capital asset discrepancies.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Provide accounting and financial data to support annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
- Assist with budget-to-actual reporting and variance analysis.
- Investigate significant differences between actual results, budgets, forecasts, and prior periods.
- Prepare supporting schedules and financial information for planning activities.
- Support financial modeling and other budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Work with internal stakeholders to gather financial information required for budgets and forecasts.
Accounting Processes & Internal Controls
- Support and maintain accounting approval workflows.
- Ensure transactions and supporting documentation comply with company policies, accounting procedures, and applicable requirements.
- Maintain accurate and complete accounting records and supporting documentation.
- Identify accounting discrepancies, control issues, unusual transactions, or process gaps and escalate them appropriately.
- Support appropriate segregation of duties and transaction approval requirements.
- Assist with maintaining and improving accounting procedures and documentation.
- Support internal and external audit requirements as needed.
- Protect confidential financial and company information.
Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls.
- Investigate recurring accounting discrepancies and support root cause analysis.
- Recommend practical improvements to increase accuracy, consistency, and efficiency.
- Support accounting system enhancements and Finance projects.
- Work collaboratively with Operations and other departments to resolve accounting and reporting issues.
- Promote consistent and accurate accounting practices across the organization.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Three to five years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a corporate or manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and general accounting principles.
- Experience with month-end close and financial reporting.
- Strong experience with general ledger activity, journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Experience preparing financial schedules and analyzing financial information.
- Working knowledge of intercompany accounting and reconciliation processes.
- Understanding of capital asset accounting and depreciation.
- Familiarity with cost accounting concepts and financial analysis.
- Understanding of financial controls and transaction approval requirements.
- Experience working with ERP or accounting systems.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
Systems & Technical Skills
- Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting and financial reporting.
- Ability to prepare financial reports, schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Ability to analyze financial results and identify significant or unusual variances.
- Experience performing budget-to-actual and period-over-period analysis.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including organizing, analyzing, and reconciling financial data.
- Ability to work with detailed financial data sets while maintaining accuracy and completeness.
- Strong understanding of general ledger and subledger relationships.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or a similar ERP system is considered an asset.

- Knowledge of budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Ability to prepare budget-to-actual and other financial variance analyses.
- Involvement in year-end close and external audit activities.
- Familiarity with accounting across multiple legal entities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or a similar ERP system is considered an asset.
- CPA designation, progress toward a CPA designation, or other accounting-related professional development is considered an asset.
