THE CHALLENGE
Provide hands-on leadership for datum and primary structural work in turbine packaging, ensuring accurate alignment, structural integrity, and readiness for downstream assembly. This role focuses on kit activities, driving safety, quality, and efficiency while mentoring technicians and collaborating with engineering and quality teams to deliver precision-built assemblies on schedule.
We are currently looking for a Shop Lead (Datum & Primary Structure) to become an X-PERT on our team in Nisku, AB.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Receive and inspect S1 and S2 kits for completeness and compliance with BOM.
- Validate datum points and ensure level alignment per engineering specifications.
- Document kit receipt and discrepancies for corrective action.
- Install rails, mounts, supports, and structural members with precision.
- Ensure proper torque, alignment, and fit-up for all primary structural components.
- Coordinate with engineering for any design clarifications or adjustments.
- Install primary cable trays, bonding jumpers, and tray bases per layout drawings.
- Verify grounding and bonding integrity for electrical safety compliance.
- Prepare tray bases for harness routing and integration.
- Prep rails and mounts for subsequent assembly stages.
- Cut and fit tray bases according to specifications.
- Initiate travelers and ensure accurate documentation for traceability.
- Lead a team of technicians, ensuring adherence to SOPs ad safety standards
- Act as the primary point of contact of engineering, quality and production teams
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives for efficiency and quality.
- Perform in-process inspections to ensure compliance with drawings and standards.
- Maintain accurate records of installation activities and traveler documentation.
- Support audits and quality reviews as required.
- Enforce strict compliance with safety protocols and PPE requirements.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to support efficient operations.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- 5+ years in mechanical assembly or structural fabrication in a heavy industrial or turbine packaging environment
- 2+ years in a leadership or lead technician role
- Datum alignment and structural work for large assemblies
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and travelers
- Ability to coordinate with engineering and quality teams
- Experience with turbine packaging or power generation equipment
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems for traveler initiation
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with repetitive tasks
- Ability to prioritize tasks to meet assembly deadlines and manage multiple kit activities simultaneously
- Ability to troubleshoot alignment or structural issues and make quick decisions under production constraints
- Strategic thinking with strong business and brand acumen

PHYSICAL & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
- Participation in safety training programs, including hazard communication, emergency response, and travel safety.
- Ensure all sales team members are trained on site-specific safety protocols when visiting customer facilities or field operations.
- Participate in any required drug and alcohol testing. This position is considered safety sensitive.
- Understand and comply with the X-Group's safety polices, safe work SOPs, protocols, procedures, and rules.
- Wear required safety equipment and personal protective devices, including clothing mandated by legislation and the employer.
- Ensure the worksites is free of hazards that could cause slips, trips, or falls.
- Notify supervisors of any unsafe conditions or acts that may endanger workers.
- Report all accidents and Injuries to supervisors es soon as possible.
- Take every reasonable precaution to protect the safety of other workers and oneself.
- Maintain a valid Driver's License and a clean driver's abstract.
- Maintain a valid passport and have the ability to travel internationally as required.
- Maintain a clean criminal background check.
- Prolong periods of standing and walking throughout the shop floor
- Ability to life and carry components and tools up to 50lbs regularly
- Occasional team lifts for heavier structural parts
- Frequent bending and kneeling
- Extended reaching
- Exposure to shop noise, vibration and varying temperatures
